Viking Gameday Preview at Tennessee
Week 1 Opponent: Tennessee Titans 3-13 in 2015 (last in AFC South)
Locale: Nissan Stadium, Nashville
Broadcast Details 12:00 CDT (Local) 1:00 EDT Dick Stockton (Play by Play) Chris Spelman (Color)
Preseason: Vikings went 4-0 during the preseason, Titans went 3-1 in exhibition play.
Series: Vikings lead the series with Titans and former Oilers 8-4, Vikings have won 4 of the last five meetings but the Vikings have lost their only visit to Nissan Stadium (then LP field) the Vikes only win was against the then Tennessee Oilers in Vanderbilt Stadium in Nashville.
Inside Info: The Vikings kick off their 2016 campaign on the road facing a very youthful Tennessee Titan squad. The big news of the preseason of course was the devastating knee injury to Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater. With Teddy B on the shelf, the Vikes traded a 2017 1st rounder and a conditional 2018 pick to the Eagles to acquire Sam Bradford. Bradford may still be getting up to speed as the signal caller so venerable vet Shaun Hill may get a majority of the snaps. Vikes head coach Mike Zimmer has said he will make it a game time decision. Titans head coach Mike Mularkey isn’t buying it and believes that Bradford will start, one person you can bank on starting on the offense is the redoubtable Adrian Peterson who had exactly zero carries in the preseason. He will be leaned on heavily to keep the sticks moving as Bradford gets up to speed.
Marcus Mariota is dangerous, and the Vikes defense must keep him bottled up and in long throwing situations. DeMarco Murray and Derrick Henry may
Vikings win if: AP gets into a rhythm and either Hill or Bradford keeps the young Titans defense honest with throws to the young receiving corps
Titans win if: The defense keeps AP bottled up and load the box with impunity with no fear of Hill or Bradford throwing and the Titans use a Murray/Henry 1-2 punch to win a slugfest
The Final Call: Hill gets the start and is a competent enough game manager to steer the Vikes in the right direction. Im thinking the Titans defense will not be able to keep a lid on AP enough and the 2016 season gets off and rolling to a solid satisfying start
Vikings 23 Titans 14
