The Golden State Warriors came up 4 points short of bringing home back to back titles. Sometimes it is just not in the cards and the Warriors, much like the Oklahoma City Thunder who they beat in the Western Conference Finals the series before, choked away a 3-1 lead and did it while maintaining home court advantage. But that season was officially in the books when the NBA Draft occurred last Thursday.
Today, some teams rosters will be completely changed with certain signings. Others might stay relatively the same. But the season itself will not be the same.
There has been an increase in the salary cap which could be a lay up for some players to receiver record contracts. Players such as LeBron James (who is expected to opt out of his option with the Cavs), and Kevin Durant could set records in what they could get should they leave their respective teams.
A player like Harrison Barnes, who on the Warriors was considered a 4th option behind Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green, could go somewhere like Philadelphia in which he could knock it out of the park with a max contract. While he is a restricted free agent, it may be hard for the Warriors to justify paying him an equal amount with other free agents out there that they could bring in for less; particulary considering his disappearing act in the Finals.
Below is a list of marquee players that could make a significant impact wherever they land… Let the madness begin!
There are obviously a few more names that could be contributors and these are not the only free agents available; just the larger names that will most likely start or be major role players on potentially playoff contending teams.
Some of these guys will stay with the teams they were on last season and others will go to spots where the money aligns with the possibility of winning a ring.
It will be exciting to see things unfold.
Both Northern California teams in the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings could very well have pieces stay or go to make an impact one way or another in the up and coming 2016-2017 NBA Season.
